Tue, 30 October 2007 I've been listed/acknowledged on the blogs for two of my favorite podcasts, FILMSPOTTING and WATCHING THE DIRECTORS: www.filmspotting.net (look under the heading of 'Listener Shows/Sites.') www.watchingthedirectors.com (read their most recent posting and look under the heading of 'Listener Links.') So my grassroots methods are somewhat taking hold. If you haven't checked out either one of these two podcasts, I recommend that you do. They're very well-done, informative programs about everything cinematic. Also-- the next episode of For Lack of a Better Word will inaugurate my 'Beautiful Music' Segment (quotation marks included.) It will feature me culling songs my dad's 'Beautiful Music' collection, a series of mixtapes which he has been making for more than 40 (!) years. (That's right-- my pops was a mix-tape pioneer.) Yet, as much as this segment will be about the songs it will also be about my feelings about the 'Beautiful Music' collection, which through out my life I have heard plenty of. There are plenty of good songs as well as plenty of oddities on these tapes. J Category: general -- posted at: 1:43 PM Comments[0] |
Wed, 24 October 2007 Once again, Alexis Adkins joins me on this edition of For Lack
of a Better Word. On this podcast, we review two films that we saw at
the 30th Mill Valley Film Festival in Marin County, California (which
incidental to recent production delays has ended.) What are the films? CHICAGO 10 (2007, dir. Brett Morgan)
I'M NOT THERE (2007, dir. Todd Haynes) Special Thanks to BEAN STREET COFFEE Songs: 'David Watts' by The Jam (unfortunately I don't have the original version by The Kinks, which is better) and 'You're Ain't Goin' Nowhere' by The Byrds. Mon, 15 October 2007 For an excellent guide to IN RAINBOWS, click here: Pitchfork Media's Guide to Radiohead's In Rainbows Also, a correction: I improperly sequenced my download copy of IN RAINBOWS. I made the last song "All I Need," when in reality it should be "Videotape." So, when I say on the podcast that the last song is a stand-out, no, I am not contradicting my earlier statement that "Videotape" was unimpressive because I didn't know "Videotape" was the real last song. (I could also correct the many grammatical errors in my speech, but I don't have all day, you know?) Lastly: the picture on the right is definitely Radiohead-esque to me, but it also suggests a possible alternate version of the movie CHILDREN OF MEN that stars a lovable, cartoon dog and not scruffy Clive Owen. Food for thought. Tags: Podcasts, Culture, Radiohead, In Rainbows |

Sun, 14 October 2007 This not be important to you the listener, but for me, I've just happy because I've been trying to fix this problem for a week! Podcast On Category: podcasts -- posted at: 1:30 PM Comments[0] |
Sat, 13 October 2007 I'm going to have to send my computer in for repairs, and I don't know how long it will be in. So, if you're paying attention, it might take awhile for a new episode. It all depends on how much my bro will let me use his computer in the meantime. Other than that, I've been struggling to back-up my computer but I haven't found an effective way to do so. Ugh... Thu, 11 October 2007 ...either the MP3 file I uploaded is corrupted (which I doubt) or there's a problem at the Liberated Syndication server (which wouldn't surprise me.) Apparently, the MP3 file never received a mime-type, but I really don't know how I couldn't have uploaded a MP3 without a mime-type when I didn't know what a mime-type was in the first place.
Anyway, I'm sure that LibSyn are on top of this. If I were to pick a term that would describe this week for me, it would be 'technical difficulties.' My laptop display screen is going haywire, the RSS MP3 for episode 5 is being anything but 'really simple,' and it was a struggle to get that Radiohead album downloaded. For now, I hope you enjoy this picture of me looking like a drunk gnome. Category: podcasts -- posted at: 1:49 PM Comments[0] |
